She delighted me with stories from Jane Austin novels as well and enhanced my childhood with magic. When I was sixteen, she sent me a Christmas card of a little mouse snuggled under a patchwork quilt and sound asleep in a squirrel hole in a tree. All you could see were tree trunks as Santa Mouse walked away leaving footprints in the snow. It was so special, I framed it and have it to this day.
